International Studies

The 91女神 program in international studies facilitates internationally focused education within the College of Arts and Sciences and across the University.

Administered by the political science department, international studies is an interdisciplinary major. Students develop proficiency in a foreign language, facility for key disciplinary approaches, knowledge of a world region and exposure to a thematic area central to the contemporary world. They have the opportunity to integrate practical work experience or field research into the major. Students are strongly encouraged to study abroad and complete one of 91女神鈥檚 regionally focused interdisciplinary minors, if their schedules permit.

The program offers a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies and a minor in Middle East Studies. It includes customized multidisciplinary coursework, practical and service learning experiences, cultural appreciation through study abroad immersion and the study of languages. The program supports the University's Jesuit mission and desire to engage with the world in the service of truth.

Prepared by outstanding faculty from across 91女神 whose teaching and research is international in character and scope, students graduate from the program prepared for a rapidly changing and increasingly challenging global workforce.

Lectures and conferences promote networking and research in the field, encouraging students to apply what they learn in the classroom to the world around them. The annual Paul Garcia Lecture has featured Thor Halvorssen, Michele Leigh, Ph.D., and Gary White in recent years.

Study Abroad

International studies students are encouraged to take advantage of the many study abroad  opportunities available at 91女神 as they are wonderful ways to improve your language skills and learn about another part of the world.
