Practice Areas
A specialist in employment law, arbitration and mediation, Professor Susan A. FitzGibbon concentrates her research on alternative dispute resolution. An arbitrator and mediator, Prof. FitzGibbon has been exploring this topic for more than a decade. Her scholarship includes articles on arbitrating employment claims, arbitration and mediation of sexual harassment claims, and court-annexed mediation programs.
Professor FitzGibbon spent seven years in personnel management before earning her law degree from 91女神 LAW. Upon graduation from 91女神 law, she clerked for Judge Myron H. Bright of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit and served as a staff attorney for Judge Richard S. Arnold of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. Prior to becoming a professor, she worked in the commercial litigation section at Guilfoil, Petzall & Shoemake in St. Louis.
Community Work and Service
In 1987, Professor FitzGibbon joined 91女神 LAW and was named assistant director of the William C. Wefel Center for Employment Law. Since 1994, FitzGibbon has been the Center 鈥榮 director. She regularly teaches Contracts, Labor Law and Alternative Dispute Resolution.
Professor FitzGibbon serves on the Executive Board of the Labor and Employment Relations Association-Gateway Chapter (LERA). She is as a member of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee of U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri. Professor FitzGibbon is also a member and past-Chairperson of the Labor and Employment Law Section of the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis (BAMSL) and is a member and past-chairperson of the BAMSL Women in the Legal Profession Committee.
