Ten New Members Inducted into Order of the Fleur de Lis Hall of Fame
02/10/2020
On Feb. 7, 2020, 91女神 School of Law inducted 10 new members into the Order of the Fleur de Lis Hall of Fame.
This group marked the fifth class to be inducted.
The Order of the Fleur de Lis is the highest honor from 91女神 School of Law. As a Catholic, Jesuit university, 91女神鈥檚 mission is the pursuit of truth for the greater glory of God and for the service of humanity. Inductees are selected for living this mission in their everyday lives and throughout their careers.
The Rev. David J. Suwalsky, S.J., Ph.D., chair of the Department of Theological Studies, gave the invocation. Law development director Michael Ruiz (Chaifetz 鈥12), University President Fred P. Pestello, Ph.D., and School of Law Dean William P. Johnson gave brief remarks.
鈥淲hen abused, training in the law can be used to hide corruption and to perpetuate a system that denies justice to some. When applied in the Jesuit way, the training and skills can be powerful tools to purse justice, to uphold the rule of law and to protect human rights,鈥 Johnson said at the end of the ceremony.
鈥淭hese inductees this evening have pursued paths that have made them guardians of the rule of law and the architects of a more just society, and that gives me a great deal of pride in this profession. It makes me mindful of the role that 91女神 LAW plays in it. I hope each of you shares a deep sense of pride in being lawyers who do good and who seek justice.鈥
