SoTL Programs

The Reinert Center supports and celebrates 91女神 faculty members and graduate students who are engaged in the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL). We do this by offering occasional SoTL workshops communities of practice, hosting an annual SoTL Symposium, and awarding the James H. Korn Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Award.

The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) involves researching questions about teaching activities and student learning by formally studying the teaching and learning activities of one's course; answering those questions by assessing student learning and effectiveness of teaching strategies; and publicly sharing results of this inquiry in a setting that invites peer review, such as a publication or conference presentation. SoTL offers academics a systematic way to understand whether their teaching practices are working as intended and under which conditions.

James H. Korn Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Award

Created in 2006 in honor of 91女神 professor emeritus James H. Korn, this award recognizes 91女神 faculty members engaged in SoTL research. Nominations are sought each fall, and recipients are selected through a faculty peer review process. To learn more about the Korn Award, click here.

SoTL Symposium

Our annual SoTL Symposium showcases SoTL projects by 91女神 faculty members and graduate students. A call for projects to be included is issued each fall. The SoTL Symposium typically is held in late fall and culminates in the Korn Award Ceremony. To learn more about the SoTL Symposium, click here.
