General FAQs

What do I need to know about online classes?

Before you begin, you should make sure that you have the basic system requirements and skills needed to succeed in an online course.

You will log in through using your 91女神net ID and password. Once in My91女神, find the 鈥淭ools鈥 tab and click on 鈥淏lackboard Learn.鈥 You will see the courses for which you are registered. Most courses will have a "Getting Started" icon to introduce you to the instructor, the Blackboard system and support services.

Online classes begin on the first day of the term. Check your course syllabus for participation guidelines for each course, but we recommend that you log in daily to participate in discussions, check for announcements from your instructor and find any changes to assignments.

How much time should I expect to spend on homework outside of the classroom?

You should expect to spend approximately two to three hours outside of the classroom for every unit of credit. Online classes are often more intense, however, and can sometimes require between 15 and 20 hours per week, depending on the subject area.

How do I find my textbooks?

You will be able to find your books online at the 91女神 Barnes and Noble Bookstore website. Choose "Prof Studies" followed by the correct term and look up your subject, course number and section. Click "find materials" and your required textbooks should appear. You can purchase online for delivery, pick up or just print out the list and bring it to the store. You may also call the bookstore at 314-531-7925.

Scheduling and Registration

Where can I find the schedule of classes and how do I register?

Visit the Office of the University Registrar website for detailed instructions on how to find classes and register through Banner Self-Service.

How do I check my grades?

You can access your grades on Banner Self-Service under the tools tab in . When you get into Banner Self-Service, click on "Student Records" under the 鈥淪tudent鈥 tab and then select "Academic Transcript." Note that this is not an official transcript.

If you want to view your grades by term, you can select "Final Grades" instead of "Academic Transcript." Just choose the term from the drop-down menu and click submit.

How can I view my schedule?
You can review your registration through Banner Self-Service. When you log in, click on the 鈥淪tudent鈥 tab and select 鈥淩egistration.鈥 You will be directed to a menu that allows you to view your schedule, register for classes and make schedule adjustments.
Why do I have a hold on my account and what can I do to have the hold removed?
To determine if you have a hold on your account, log into Banner Self-Service, select the 鈥淪tudent鈥 tab, select 鈥淪tudent Records鈥 and then click 鈥淰iew Holds.鈥 Click on the hold type to find out how to get the hold removed. Note that student accounts holds are not automatically removed upon payment to the University.
 
What do I need to do if I have to withdraw from a class?
Contact your coach if you need to withdraw from a class. Your coach will provide SPS withdrawal dates and a link to submit a drop request. Be aware that withdrawing from courses may impact your financial aid. Before you complete the drop request, it is recommended that you contact Student Financial Services at 314-977-2350. Also, take a moment to review the withdrawal policy regarding drop dates and refund ranges.
 

Academic Concerns

What do I do if I am having problems in class?

First, talk with your instructor. Instructors will schedule time outside of class to meet with you and assist you in problem areas or connect you with resources that could help you better grasp the information. It is always good to show an instructor that you care about learning and that you are trying to do your best in the class.

Be sure to also take advantage of 91女神鈥檚 free academic resources. The Student Success Center offers tutoring for several SPS courses.

Third, contact your coach with concerns regarding problems in class. Your coach may be able to suggest additional resources.

My concern is not related to anything listed above. What should I do?

If you have a question, problem or concern other than those listed, feel free to email sps@slu.edu and someone from the School for Professional Studies will respond as quickly as possible. You can also contact your academic coach directly. Graduate students should contact their program director.
