Library Exhibits Policy

Purpose

The purpose of library exhibits and displays is to contribute to the intellectual and cultural environment of the University Libraries and the greater university community.

Scope and Nature of Exhibits

Library exhibits and displays are intended to reflect and highlight research, programs, curricula, or the campus life of 91女神 using library materials. Although beliefs and viewpoints expressed in the displays belong to the exhibitors and do not necessarily represent the opinions of the Library Exhibits Committee or Saint Louis University Libraries, exhibits will be consistent with the University鈥檚 educational philosophy and ideals and be fair and equitable concerning issues of potential controversy.

Duration of Exhibits

Exhibits are typically scheduled for four weeks, beginning the first week of the month.

Application Procedure

Submit an describing the purpose of the exhibition, preferred dates for the exhibit and applicants contact information. The exhibit proposal should be submitted at least 8 weeks prior to the proposed beginning date the exhibit.

Applications will be evaluated by the Pius/Services/Events/Exhibits Committee. Applicants will be informed by email within 1 week of submitting their request in regard to the acceptance and scheduling of their proposed exhibit.

Security

Exhibit cases are lockable, but are located in public areas that cannot always be monitored against damage, theft, or vandalism. The University Libraries do not carry insurance for exhibits and therefore cannot be held responsible for the safety of items placed in exhibits or display cases. Exhibitors concerned about possible damage or loss are encouraged to consult an insurance agent. Exhibitors are also encouraged to fill out a Display Inventory Form (PDF) for their records, which is located on the Exhibits Web Page.

Supplies

The library maintains a limited supply of materials, such as push pins, tape, and book stands, for mounting exhibits and displays. Additional materials must be provided by the exhibitor.

Removal of Exhibits

Exhibitors are responsible for removing displays at the end of the scheduled period. Exhibits that are not removed on time will be dismounted by the Pius/Services/Events/Exhibits Committee. The committee is not responsible for any damage incurred during the dismounting. Additionally, unclaimed exhibit materials may be disposed of after two weeks. Designated space and/or display cases are available to students, staff, and faculty of Saint Louis University.
